The Author

"... a pianist with immense talent and will most surely make his mark in the musical profession"

Eric James, music associate of the late Sir Charles Chaplin

Alessandro Simonetto is a musician and sound engineer. As an autodidact, he graduated at the Steffani Conservatory of Music in Castelfranco Veneto in only 3 years (1998-2001), and in electronic music at the Pollini Conservatory of Padua (2004). He also studied harpsichord, choral direction and composition.

He strongly advocates the use of the MIDI protocol as an ideal channel for the automatic interpretation of keyboard instruments, and in 2004 he founded Kunst der Fuge (http://kunstderfuge.com/ ): a resource of classical music in .mid format, which is actually the largest of its kind in the world wide web for its vastity, quality and gratuity, and is also the most visited classical music website in Italy. He has successively collaborated with (amongst others): KTH (MTH) of Stockholm (as researcher), Milan Digital Audio (as kunstderfuge.com owner) and the author Donald O'Donovan (for his work: The Sugar House) and, as a sound engineer, with labels such as MDG, Audite (Germany), Recercare (Belgium), Tactus, Tronos (Italy), etc. His recordings are also broadcast by Italian and international radio and television stations. In 2004 Alessandro founded the OnClassical label, when the website http://www.onclassical.com/ was already online.

The last of Simonetto's projects is called Classicaland (2007) (http://classicaland.com ), which is a growing web-library of old sheet music books in digitalized format.

In his free time Alessandro loves to conduct amateur choirs: at the end of 2006 he founded the mixed choir Symposium Vocale, an ensemble of 12 singers, and also conducts the Coro Bassano, a folk/popular male choir and the Schola Cantorum S.ta Caecilia, a liturgical (mixed) choir.
